ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany High School students are now better equipped to handle an emergency. Today's drill scenario included an explosion and students acting as first responders.

Students learned how to treat wounds, take vital signs, and do CPR.

Teachers say the students' emergency response skills were put to a real test just last week when a gas odor forced an evacuation.

"As soon as they got off the bus, they went right to work, for it to be such an emergency, a real one, they performed very great," says Emergency Medicine Instructor Melinda Suber.

Albany High is the only Dougherty County school with a student-led Safety team.
