Ludowici Police Chief James Rogers resigned while on unpaid admin leave during the city's investigation of accusations.
Rogers was accused of making sexual comments toward officers and department employees and other management problems.
The city was supposed to discuss what to do about Rogers at an administrative hearing on Tuesday morning. But that meeting got canceled late Monday when Rogers submitted this one sentence resignation.Rogers simply stated he was resigning effect Friday. The Ludowici City Council placed him on suspension last month pending the outcome of an investigation. Rogers was accused of sexual misconduct, employee harassment and other problems. Neither the mayor nor the city's legal counsel would say what that report would have said.WTOC spoke with city attorney Joe Kitchings. He said he hopes the city can put this situation behind them, bring the department together and move forward.He said he's not sure yet if the mayor and council plan to promote their interim chief to the job permanently or begin the search for a new chief.
