CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) -

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is offering free rides to Lowcountry residents all day Friday. 

CARTA's Free-Ride Friday will give first-time riders the opportunity to try out Charleston's public transit system for the low, low cost of free. Regulars will also get to enjoy a fare-free day of riding.

The event, sponsored by McDonalds, gives all passengers unlimited access to all CARTA routes for the entire day. 

McDonalds will be giving out coupons to riders throughout the day as part of the event.
