ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It could soon be illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to buy alternative nicotine products such as electronic cigarettes.

House members are expected to vote on Bill 251 Monday. It would prohibit the sale of electronic cigarettes and nicotine gum and patches to people under 18.

Health officials say E-cigs are being marketed to a younger audience.

"Nicotine is one of the most addictive drugs that is known to man. And they are not considered safe, even the FDA has not given their approval for e cigarettes to be considered safe," said Remy Hutchins, RN, BSN, MPH, of Southwest Georgia Public Health.

Republican Representative Alan Powell from Hartwell introduced the bill.
