GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A 58-year-old man was killed in a wreck in Cherokee County on Monday afternoon, according to troopers.

The Highway Patrol reported on their website that the wreck happened at 2:09 p.m. on SC Highway 110, Highway 11 and Alternate 221, near the Cowpens Battlefield.

Coroner Dennis Fowler said Samuel Wofford III was killed in the three-vehicle collision.

According to Fowler, Wofford was headed east on Highway 11 when he first collided with a 2004 Honda Odyssey van that was headed south.

Wofford's vehicle then spun, causing the door to open and the man to be ejected, according to Fowler.

"After disregarding the red light, there was no indication at the scene that he attempted to apply brakes. I will be looking to see if a medical condition could have played a role in the fatal collision," Fowler said.

Wofford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fowler said one of the other drivers was transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital and another had only minor injures.
