Americus man killed in crash

The Georgia State Patrol says 47-year-old Sam Singletary of Americus was killed when his motorcycle and another vehicle collided at the intersection of Georgia State Route 3 and Georgia Highway 27 Saturday evening.

Law enforcers say 53-year-old Gregory Leonard of Atlanta was on Georgia Highway 27 headed east and turned north on Georgia State Route 3.

Singletary was traveling westbound on Spring St. and crossing over State Route 3 when the two collided.  The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

Singletary was killed in the crash. Leonard was cited and charged with Driving while Intoxicated, Open container, and Possession of a Drug Related Object.

Leonard was taken to the Sumter County Jail. Further charges are pending. The GSP's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating.
