PIEDMONT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Piedmont man who died after crashing his Hummer into a tree on Fire Tower Road around 5:20 a.m. Saturday was a veteran and Purple Heart recipient, according to Anderson County Coroner Greg Shore.

Shore said James Gravley, 42, died after veering off the road and crashing his 2007 Hummer H3 into a tree.

Shore said Gravley was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.

Shore said high speed was a factor in the crash.

Toxicology results are pending, Shore said.
