Volunteers from the Lee County School system and the Dougherty County Rotary Club helped loaded trucks with surplus furniture and school supplies Friday afternoon. The items will be shipped to Liberia.
During 14 years of civil war, most schools in the west African country were destroyed and many teachers fled the country.
"That's what rotary does, rotary serves the people that are not served, that is all part of what we live for, I'm from Liberia great opportunity to give back to my country," said Kames Sirleas, volunteer.
Though schools in Liberia are improving, many don't have basic supplies, and only about half of the population is literate. Volunteers will load up more supplies Saturday.
To volunteer, you can do so Saturday from 8 AM- 2 PM at 299 Leslie Hwy, Leesburg, GA.
