Strong winds rips through chicken farm in Mitchell County

Damage hit a home on Lime Pitt Road after strong storms hit Mitchell County Friday morning. Thankfully, damage wasn't widespread.

"It looked really sporadic and that's a good thing and you never know, weather is so unpredictable. We just try to stay prepared all the time so we're ready whenever it's time to go," said Sunny Cochran.

Mitchell EMC crews were called out to restore power to about 700 customers.

"Mostly dues to line down. Trees on the line, breaking them off. We've had all available crews," said Cochran.

Some of the worst damage, was to Solomon's Poultry chicken house in the Baconton area.

Shingles from the building were thrown across the field and some parts were flattened. Power crews also worked through the morning and afternoon to restore power their power.

Shortly before 10:30 most of the power was restored.

"When the major rains and wind came through about 7:45 it knocked some in North Mitchell out and they stayed out for a little while," said Sunny Cochran.

County workers also helped to clear the roads of debris from the roads.
