ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A Dougherty County library closed for more than a year and a half is gearing up to reopen.

County leaders, members of the library board, and people from the community toured the Westtown Branch today during an open house.

The building was closed in summer 2012 because of budget constraints.  Commissioners approved $68,000 last year to re-open the library part-time and give it a facelift.

"Having a good library system that's available, that's accessible, I think gets us a long way toward being a more progressive community," said John Hayes, Dougherty County Commissioner.

Hayes said commissioners hope to find ways to reopen the Southside Branch as well.

Starting February 24th, the Westtown library will be open Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2pm t 6pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 2pm.
