ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Police Department is using social media more to reach out to the community.

Thursday afternoon Officers told members of the department's Civilian Review Board how they're using facebook and other social media to communicate with the people they serve.

Board members also got an update on how the citizens police academy is helping APD build better relations with the community.

"Using all of these avenues as a way to educate them, it's a great tool, Citizens Police Academy that's an opportunity for people to come in, it's an opportunity for officers to convey what they need," said Phyllis Banks.

The APD Civilian review board has about a dozen members. They serve as a voice for the community and meet quarterly with police leaders.
