FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

One South Georgia high school is celebrating a significant jump in the graduation rate.

Fitzgerald High School's rate jumped from 64.9% in 2011 to 83.5% last year. That is above the state average. The principal says hard work from students and staff is paying off.

"The students and staff coming to work every day really focusing in on teaching the standards and the instructions in the classroom and the students buying into what we're doing and we see the success of that," said Stacey Bell.

The school has also been recognized as a high progress reward school for the last two years for improving scores on End of Course Tests.
