Lady Rams throttle FVSU, earn first wins

The Albany State Lady Rams wanted a win in the worst way, and they found the perfect opportunity to get it.

A winless start to the season came to an end Wednesday, with a home doubleheader drubbing of rival Fort Valley State.

Alexa Lopez tossed five shutout innings, gave up only one hit, while going 3-3 from the plate with an RBI in the Lady Rams' 8-0 game one win.

In the second game, the ASU bats stayed hot.

The Lady Rams slugged 12 hits in the 11-1 win.

Chelsea Hicks and Malea Maye provided three hits apiece, with Hicks driving in six RBI and earning the win.

ASU plays host to south Georgia rival Valdosta State on Tuesday, February 25. First pitches in the doubleheader are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
