ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Things are getting better for a troubled south Georgia school board.Wednesday night the Sumter County Board of Education discussed a new report from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The group that accredits school systems says Sumter County is addressing problems that landed the system on probation.

SACS upgraded the status to "accredited warned."

"Well I think it's good for the district, it is good for students, since the board has been going through this, test scores have improved," said Maurice King, school board attorney.

SACS sent a monitoring review team to Americus in December. They recently filed this report that says the system is making progress.
