SWGTC award recipients share passion for service

CAIRO, GA (WALB) -

The top teacher and student at Southwest Georgia Technical College say serving others is important to them.

Business management instructor Neil Clements and management student Jade Marshall spoke about their commitment to community service on Wednesday to the Rotary Club in Cairo.

They were recently named the college's teacher and student of the year respectively through the state's GOAL program.

"One thing I have implemented since I got there is giving back to the community, we've done a lot of fund raising efforts and we've had a lot of success, my GOAL winner was actually on a team that raised $6,000 in a ten week period," said Rick Perkins Award recipient Neil Clements.

"It feels amazing, I'm still at a loss for words at how truly happy and honored I am to have this award," said student of the year Jade Marshall.

The two will represent the college in the regional competition for the right to move on to the state GOAL competition.
