Leesburg Heroes Run this Saturday

LEESBURG, GA (WALB) -

Leesburg Volunteers are gearing up for another 9/11 Heroes Run.

The run will take place this Saturday at 3 p.m. People can register at the Albany or Lee Branch YMCA, online, or in person on the day of the event.

On Saturday, Registration will start at 2 p.m. In front of the courthouse in Downtown Leesburg. This is the community's way of honoring first responders.

"We do it to honor first responders. We do it to honor the Military, those that have given their lives and still serving," says Alicia Arnold, Lee Branch YMCA Director.

"Since the 911 attack in 2001, the first responders, and the men and woman in our department of defense, the idea is to remember the  sacrifices they made," says Greg Frich, Lee County Commissioner.

Officials say they're hoping to start up Habitat for Humanity in the area, and they plan to use proceeds from the run to build a home for a veteran.
