VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Lake Park Fire Department now has money to purchase some new equipment.

The fire department was recently awarded a grant worth nearly six thousand dollars from the Georgia Municipal Safety and Liability Management Grant program. The fire chief says even though the grant may not be huge, he's more than happy to have it.

"We seen the need to replace some of our gear. Grants play a major part in that for Lake Park, being as small as we are. This was an excellent opportunity for us to provide quality equipment to our firefighters," said Lake Park Fire Chief David Brown.

The department also received a one thousand dollar grant from Norfolk Southern last November.
