Guilty verdict in Decatur Co. murder case

After a three day trial, a Decatur County jury found Donalsonville man guilty of murder in the death of a two-month old girl.

Deonte Tvaris Smith was found guilty on three counts of Felony Murder, two counts of Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and two counts of Aggravated Assault-Family Violence.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents and medical examiners showed in the trial that Smith grabbed, shook, and caused the death of his two month old daughter on April 12, 2012.

Felony Murder carries a mandatory life sentence. The sentence was deferred by Chief Judge A. Wallace Cato.
