Possible Overpass Closings in Cordele

Tina Bearden, Administrative Superintendent Tina Bearden, Administrative Superintendent
CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

Cordele public works officials are prepared to close overpasses if icy conditions develop.

Officials met with the county's Emergency management agency this morning to discuss weather preparations. They say black ice on the fifth street and 24th avenue overpasses Wednesday afternoon are their main concerns.

"There will be probable ice on those bridges and we want to keep everybody safe, so those will be closed. We'll be putting out sand of course we don't have any salt in this area," said Tina Bearden.

Officials say they will also be on standby for fallen limbs. The county's Emergency Management Agency will stay in contact with the Peachtree National Weather Service tonight to discuss further actions for Wednesday.
