Moultrie Police see jump in car break-ins

Investigator David Jones Investigator David Jones
MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Moultrie Police have investigated about 20 thefts from cars so far this year. They say many of them could have been prevented.

"A thief can come up and look in the windows, if he sees something in plain view," said investigator David Jones. "Laptop, cell phones, especially iPhones, you can sell those and get top dollar for them right now."

On Monday, officer Jones was able to find one car that was unlocked along the side of the road on one city block.

"If it all possible, pull up your drive way," Jones said. "They don't want to walk up there by your house because, you know, its going to make some noise."

Even if high value items are removed, leaving something as simple a phone charger can trigger a crook to try to break-in.
