LOWNDES COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

58 year old Martitia Jones from Barwick and 69 year old Ashokkumar Patel from Valdosta were killed in the six car accident on Highway 84 Sunday night.

Georgia State Patrol troopers were at the scene of the accident on Monday morning to try and determine exactly what happened.

Troopers say there were actually two separate accidents involving a total of  six cars. The first accident happened around 11 p.m. when a car and semi truck collided in the Westbound lanes of Highway 84 near the James Road intersection.

Before the vehicles could be moved, another accident involving westbound traffic happened at the same spot.

"There were two vehicles West bound on 84 towards Valdosta. They had a collision," said Carl Taylor, Post Commander of the GSP post in Valdosta.

"After those two vehicles collided, one of them being a commercial vehicle came to rest somewhere in the median," said Taylor. "Some short time after that, prior to getting the vehicles secured and moved or anything like that, emergency personnel on the scene [said] a second collision occurred with the westbound traffic. As a result of this second collision in the westbound lane, there are actually two fatalities confirmed this morning."
