ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Sylvester-Worth County Chamber of Commerce elected it's first black chairman in its 32 year history.

Chris Shipp took was elected as chairman on January 29th. He's been a member of the chamber since 2006. He previously served as secretary, treasurer and vice chair for the chamber. As chairman, he will represent the chamber and preside over its meetings.

"The progression of the community has been one that's been a long time coming, it's just I'm fortunate to be the guy at the time that was able to take some of the credit for it, but my community as a whole has allowed me to be put in this position," said Chris Shipp.

Shipp is also the owner of his Shipp Shape Lawn Service. He will preside over his first meeting as chairman on February 21st.
