ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Anthony Jones announced his candidacy for Dougherty County Commission seat District 6, currently held by Jack Stone. Jones made his announcement at noon at the Government Building on Pine Avenue, downtown.

Jones says he has lived in the district for 25 years, and says he wants to see more economic activity and growth there, because he feels the area lags behind.

"My game plan is to first to listen to the citizens and work with fellow commissioners to make sure that economic development is gonna be the train.  That's going to be the driving force to getting economic development going on the east side," said Jones.

Jones says he respects Stone, who was recently named county Vice Chair.  He says voters want a more visible commissioner, and he promises to run a clean campaign.

Jones said he will meet with citizens of Ward VI to hear their concerns, and to learn what they want from their commissioner.

The primary will be held in May.
