DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -

Renovations will soon begin on two Dougherty County schools.

Today, board members unanimously approved an architectural contract with Saunders Roberts & Johnson Architects for construction on Magnolia Education Center and Sylvester Road School.

That company is based in Albany, something board member Darrel Ealum was hoping for.

"We've got an architect right here in town that can do the same job, they're on the list, and so I made the motion that we accept the local architect over the out of town architect. And thankfully my committee members agreed with me and now the board agrees with me," said Ealum.

Both schools need to be up and running by August.  The estimated cost of Magnolia Education Center is about $750,000.  Construction on Sylvester Road is expected to cost about $1.1 million.
