VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta Police say 21 year-old Elizabeth Lohmar, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, is the pedestrian who was by a car while crossing the street in a crosswalk on Patterson Street.

Lohmar is a student at VSU. She continues to recover at South Georgia Medical Center, after undergoing surgery Wednesday evening for her injuries.

Police say Lohmar was crossing the street in the designated crosswalk area at the intersection of North Patterson and East College street.

Police say 21 year-old Michael Laslie was turning South onto Patterson Street when he hit the woman. She was taken to the ER at South Georgia Medical with multiple injuries.

"The pedestrian that was struck earlier this afternoon is in surgery now at South Georgia Medical Center. Apparently has several broken ribs, also a broken elbow, of course multiple abrasions and scrapes from the accident...likely that she'll survive, not considered life-threatening," said Lt. Aaron Kirk with the Valdosta Police Department.

Police don't know if the woman is a student. They will only describe her as a 21 year-old white female. They are waiting to notify the woman's family before releasing her name.

Here is the original release from the Valdosta Police Department:
