Vet lounge opens at Thomas University

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Veterans continuing their education now have a place to go and relax at Thomas University. The lounge opened on Monday and is a project that has been in the making for five years.

The room has furniture, snacks and offers computer access to vets. Campus leaders say they have a large veteran population and they want to show their appreciation by providing a place for them to fellowship with one another.

"Two of our veterans that had not spoke much outside of classes, got to sit and talk with one another yesterday and through their conversation one veteran informed the other that there was a benefit she was not receiving and is now on track to receive that benefit," said student and sports services retention coordinator Jennifer Lindquist.

Ashley's Furniture donated furniture and many professors and people in the community donated to help set up the lounge.
