CAMILLA, GA (WALB) -

A determined burglary suspect led law officers on a wild two-county chase, before the man behind the wheel was put behind bars.

But the Mitchell County sheriff says the loot he's accused of stealing is on the streets, and he has a message for anyone who may have bought it, following a string of home break-ins.

Deputies say Jeremy Jackson, believed to be behind a string of home break-ins, was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord going more than 100 miles per hour, with a Mitchell County deputy in pursuit.

"A total of about five that's been going on since the latter part of November," said Mitchell County Sheriff W. E. Bozeman.

Investigators say Jackson, who just wrapped up a burglary sentence last year doesn't want to stop because of what he has in the trunk of his car.   But his luck ran out when he hit stop sticks in Cairo, and crashed in a ditch.

"He had guns in the trunk was one reason he was running. Usually we don't try to chase but in this case we had to get the evidence," the sheriff said.

Jackson is believed to have stolen guns, jewelry, and electronics.  "We really need the public's help. If they have bought something from this person we ask them to get in touch with us. We need to get as much of it as we can recovered for the owners," Bozeman said.

Holding on to it could result in jail time if caught. Now a man who was serving 40 years probation for burglary will be back in jail on the same charges, along with numerous traffic offenses.

If you have purchased any stolen item from Jeremy Jackson or have information about burglaries in the area, call the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office at 229-336-2033.
