ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Emergency managers are stressing the importance of you being ready for weather emergencies. This is Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Dougherty County Deputy EMA Director Jim Vaught says families need to have a plan in case of severe weather like tornados or thunderstorms.

He says you should have an emergency kit with things such as water, duct tape, and gloves.

"We want you to think about a plan for your family. We want you to know what your going to do in an emergency event, if you lose power or whatever the circumstance might be you have had a chance to sit down and talk with your family during an emergency," says Jim Vaught.

He says South Georgia is susceptible to all kinds of dangerous weather. Even occasional ice and snow as we saw last week.
