ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Chris Cohilas, a law partner at Watson Spence and former Chief Assistant District Attorney for Dougherty County, announced today that he will run for chair of the Dougherty County Commission.

Cohilas made the announcement days after long time chairman Jeff 'Bodine' Sinyard announced that he would not seek another as leader of the commission.

"I want to have a voice in what's being done with our government and I think that our local government should serve the business community and the citizens of Dougherty County," he said.

Cohilas currently serves as the Vice-Chairperson and Trustee for the Darton College Foundation, is an active member of the Albany Rotary Club, and the Artesian City Sertoma Club.

He is the former President and Chairperson for Sertoma; past co-chairperson for the King Day Celebration Committee, and a founding member of the Lily Pad Sexual Assault Center.

In his capacity as a member and officer for Sertoma, he was instrumental in helping raise countless dollars for the Lily Pad, which is a refuge for victims of sexual abuse.

Dougherty County Commissioner Gloria Gaines says she is also considering running for the chairman position.
