ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A former Dougherty High school teacher is indicted for sexual assault on a student.

26-year-old Dornicia Johnson could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

Investigators say between April and August, while a second year math teacher at Dougherty High, Johnson had sex with an 18-year-old student off campus.

Prosecutors say it's a serious crime and seems to be happening more with women teachers nationally.

"But I don't know if it's a matter of there being more attention to it, or more observation, or detection of the conduct. But that does seem to be the trend," said Dougherty D.A. Greg Edwards.

Johnson was fired by the Dougherty County School system last year.
