WARWICK, GA (WALB) -

Several people came out to celebrate the life of a fallen Warwick police dog.

Sasha, a fallen Warwick Police K-9 was laid to rest Saturday. The Warwick Police Department and the community honored her with a memorial service.

"We're glad to have her home. We wanted to give her a memorial service that she deserves," said David Morris.

Sasha, a Dutch Shepherd, was found dead in her handler's patrol unit after becoming trapped in the front part of the car in September of 2012.

Multiple law enforcement agencies escorted Sasha from Jackson, Georgia to her final resting place across from the Warwick Police Department. Everyone says Sasha's personality will be greatly missed.

"She was a sweetheart, she was a happy dog. One minute she out there dealing with the offenders on the road. And she's intimidating. And the next minute, she's in the community, kids coming up to pet her," said Lt. John Mucci.

Chief David Morris says he only spent a short time with Sasha, but has many fond memories of her.

"We're sitting at the desk  and her coming up and putting her head on my knee and she was just standing there and she was just resting her head on my knee," said Chief Morris.

Morris says Sasha was a great protector who was always ready and eager to work.

"She was good for our morale. She was responsible for the apprehension of numerous drug offenders," said Morris.

The monument of Sasha will serve as a reminder to the community of how special she was to all those she's touched.

"There's so many adjectives that you can say. She really is a fantastic companion, fantastic dog and fantastic K9 officer," said Mucci.

An organization called "We ride to provide" which takes care of fallen K-9 dogs, brought Sasha's remains to the memorial.
