DOUGLAS, GA (WALB) -

A new boys and girls club is coming to Douglas.

The location for the first Boys and Girls Club of Coffee County will be the 10,000 square foot building on Jackson Street. It used to house the Douglas Police Department.

Volunteers are halfway to their goal of collecting $330,000 cover operating costs. Right now, they have $180,000.

"Trying to take care of those kids that are going home to empty homes. Or out on the streets during those hours unsupervised. Trying to give them a good place to come and participate with other children," said Barry Bloom.

After renovations,  the club is expected to open in August and will able to accommodate 250 kids.
