CAIRO, GA (WALB) -

A couple of hundred people will honor a late South Georgia educator who had a major impact on students and her Cairo community.

The Lateesha Faulk Clinton Memorial Run honors an educator who dedicated her life to learning, living, and leading by example.

"When I moved to Cairo and began working at Southside she immediately helped me to understand the school system, she mentored me in a way that has totally impacted my career," said Event Assistant Dr. Chantrell Bruton.

Lateesha Faulk Clinton was an educator in the Grady County community for many years, and after her passing last year, the folks at the school made it their goal to honor her dedication to education.

"That type of legacy, that she left for them, that try your best, work hard to be a good student to strive for something better for what you have, that definitely has carried over and you can see it in our Pre-k students up to our 5th graders," said Bruton.

It's that legacy that is bringing volunteers and businesses forward in support of the Memorial 5k, and it's that motivation that will propel students and members of the community forward as they maneuver through Saturday's course.

"She meant so much to all of us, she had such contributions, not only here at Southside elementary school but in Grady County schools and in the Cairo Grady county community," said Principal Janet Walden.

A gesture to spark the same love of her community and concern for others that principal Clinton was known for.

All proceeds will benefit the Lateesha Faulk Clinton educational projects fund at the school. Registration begins at 8:00 am at Southside Elementary School at 491 3Rd Street, SE.  The run starts at 9:00AM.  Call 229-377-3723 for info.
