The ice and snow that fell in South Georgia this week were little more than just an inconvenience. And that's thanks to good planning.
Our emergency and public safety leaders were well-prepared and worked around the clock to make sure that roads and bridges were safe.
While you slept, crews were out sanding bridges where ice patches formed; police officers patrolled roads to make sure people slowed down in unsafe driving conditions; and school leaders closed schools and canceled after-school events to make sure people didn't have to travel.
While there were a few fender benders, we're relieved that there were no widespread traffic problems.
Video from Atlanta shows just how bad things can be without good planning. We're grateful that our weather wasn't as severe as Atlanta's and that our public safety leaders responded quickly. Thanks to all who worked long hours to make sure we were safe.
