THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Thomasville police are backing off of an earlier statement that a man tried to kidnap a boy from a school on Friday.

They now say the man "approached" an 8th grade student at Macintyre Park Middle School near a parking lot close to the gym and cafeteria, the student was not hurt.

Police say they are searching for the man and investigating his intent.

"Right now we are still investigating, trying to see if we can locate and see who this gentleman might be, find out who he is, anybody that may have information about this incident, that may have seen something or know who the gentleman is by the description is asked to call Thomasville police department,"said Lieutenant Eric Hampton.

Police say the man is white about 6 feet tall with brown hair and a light beard. He wore torn clothing, a black jacket, blue work pants, and dirty shoes.

If you have any information call Thomasville police.
