Robbers target laundromats two days apart

Two men robbed a woman outside a Tifton laundromat.  It happened just a few days after a robbery at another laundromat in Tifton.

Little Six Laundry has been in business more than 50 years, and the owners say they have never had this problem before.  They're working with police to solve this case and prevent another crime. This surveillance video shows a man in red walking around inside the Little Six laundromat Monday afternoon. He meets another man dressed in black who you see here coming in through the side door.  Five minutes later, they walk out, and the man in red approaches a customer sitting in her car waiting for her laundry to dry.

"She had her door cracked open, he walked up to her and demanded money from her. She advised she didn't have any money. He then brandished a silver handgun and told her to give him her purse," said Inv. Dorminey McCrae.

The man got away with her phone and $10 she planned to use to pay for her laundry. He jumped into this white Hyundai Sonata seen behind the other man who entered the business. They left heading East on 6th Street. Owners of the laundromat say this is the first time this has happened at their business.  They're telling customers it is still safe to wash clothes at their business. Just two days earlier an armed robbery took place inside the Spic and Span laundromat on East 12th street.

"A Black male wearing a dark clothing walked into the laundromat at the Spic and Span brandishing a gun and approached the victim and told him give me the money," said McCrae.

The robber got away with $200 and left in a white vehicle. Tifton police don't believe the two incidents are connected.

"We're not going to link them together yet, but it was pretty much the same type situation. Another black male was out waiting in the vehicle," said McCrae.

Tifton police say they are now talking to owners and looking for anyone fitting the descriptions of the robbers. They are encouraging people to be aware of their surroundings at all times. If you think you recognize the men in the video you are asked to call investigators at 229-382-3132.
