ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

They SOWEGA Council on aging wants to help seniors file their taxes, so they will partner with the Tax Wise program to offer free tax preparation and counseling, starting February 3rd     

They're specifically reaching out to people 60 and older, but they'll help younger taxpayers too.  Certified counselors will file tax returns electronically.  

"We're just volunteers and we want to give back. Most of us are retired and we just want to give back to the community.  We have to be certified and we take a course and are certified by the IRS," said Tax Wise Coordinator Laura McKinney.             

You can make an appointment by calling SOWEGA Council on aging at 432-1124.   Appointments are available on Mondays and Tuesday from 9 to 3.

Items to bring:

·       picture ID

·       social security card for each person on the return

·       copy of last year's income tax return

·       all documents relating to income and claimed deductions (if itemizing)
