Chehaw officials say they are prepared to restore power at the park if their electricity gets knocked out.
Park officials stocked up on generators and propane heaters. They say all their propane tanks are full and heaters are up and running. They say the possibility of a power outage was their main concern during this latest stint of cold weather.
"So we went out this time yesterday and bought some generators, so we've got all the animal areas situated so that if the power does go out we can turn on the generators and we'll have electricity through the park as well," said Dough Porter.
Porter says all the animals have night shelters to keep them from being out in the cold. The Zoo was closed Tuesday and will remain closed Wednesday. Porter says the rest of the park is scheduled to be open but that could change based on weather conditions.
