Trucking company owner granted million dollar bond

A judge has granted bond for the Albany trucking company owner, called the mastermind of the MCLB fraud scheme.

Magistrate Judge Thomas Langstaff granted United Logistics Trucking company owner Christopher Whitman a one million dollar secured bond, but also required home detention with electronic monitoring equipment.

Federal prosecutors in an indictment say Whitman paid hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to officials in charge of transportation and equipment at the Marine Corps Logistics Base from 2008 to 2012.

In exchange they would gave him trucking contracts and allowed him to over-bill millions of dollars.

The indictment says Whitman made a profit of more than 20-million dollars.

At least four other former base officials and trucking firm employees have already pleaded guilty and are cooperating with the federal investigation.
