Liberty House raising funds for new facility

LEE COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

An emergency shelter and outreach organization is working to raise funds to build a new home.

Liberty House held their first fundraiser of the year, called Pearls and Possibilities, in Lee County Saturday.

The organization serves more than a dozen counties and hundreds of domestic violence victims each year. Officials say their goal is to build a new shelter with more beds to house families.

"Woman are dying everyday at the hands of abusers and children in those homes are seeing that violence, and it creates a cycle of violence, which we really need to do something about," says Silke Deeley, the Executive Director of Liberty House.

Right now, they have about 21 beds. A new building could cost anywhere from 500 thousand to a million dollars.
