ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

South Georgian children were reminded about the importance of following their dreams Friday.

500 sixth grade boys took part in the 6th Winter Youth Summit at Albany State University.  The Center for the African American Male hosted the event for all races and socioeconomic backgrounds for children from the surrounding 24 counties.  The goal is to boost higher learning.

"We want to close out 2013.  Bring in 2014 through the windshield looking forward and understanding that we need you to go to class," said Antonio Leroy, CAAM Director.  "We need you to understand who you are.  We need you to understand that school gives added value."

Organizers hope the summit inspires young men to get college degrees.
