VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta City Schools is hosting a reading bowl on Saturday.

Students from Sallas Mahone Elementary will be participating for the second time.

"We are so excited. We have a great group of kids," said Michelle Beaufort, Media Specialist at Sallas Mahone Elementary.

Today, some of the students at Sallas Mahone Elementary took time to practice for tomorrow's competition. Elementary, middle and high school students will compete against one another to answer questions about books from a pre-selected list.

Beaufort said the event serves two important goals.

"Teamwork," Beaufort said.

"[To] instill a greater love for readin'. To let them know that readin' doesn't stop at school, it's a lifetime experience and it's something that's going to guide them along their way" Beaufort continued.

The event will take place at the Performing Arts Center at Valdosta High School from nine until noon.

Winners in each group, elementary, middle and high school, will go on to compete in a regional competition at Valdosta State University on February third.
