ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Members of the Albany Fire Department presented a check for $1,200 to the Flint River Chapter of the American Red Cross Friday morning at the main fire station downtown.

The check was made possible by sales of the 2014 AFD calendar featuring men and women of the Albany Fire Department.

Donald Jackson of AFD said that the volunteers of the American Red Cross are heroes in their own right, because they do so much to help people who have been displaced by fire, and support them in the aftermath of the loss.

Nature Malone represented the American Red Cross Flint River Chapter, receiving the check.

"The men and women going out and not only saving lives, and going out in the community.  And being there.  But also giving back to the community. So we appreciate it very much," she said.
