SCCPSS Town Hall discusses IB Program

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

What does the future hold for the International Baccalaureate program at Savannah Chatham schools?

That was the question many parents had at Thursday's district 4 town hall meeting at Islands High school. Administrators asked parents to give their input about the current IB program at Marshpoint Elementary and Coastal Middle.

The program has been on the chopping block a number of times, but has been spared, as we approach budget talks again, many parents told WTOC they are worried about the future of the program.

"My fear is, it's a great thing in place already," said Patrick Miller. "I have stated this before, lets not fix something that isn't broken. The IB program is proven. It is proven at these schools."

"We wanted to hear from the parents and get some of their reaction on how vibrant they think the program is. How their students benefit from having an IB school and the value of the program," said SCCPSS Kurt Hetager. "We do know as we head into the budget season that will not begin until April, that their will be some tough decisions."

During the town hall meeting they also discussed academic outcomes, ESPLOST plans and schedules for construction and athletic projects at each district 4 school.
