ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Financial experts say criminals are becoming more tech-savvy, targeting businesses and personal accounts.  They urge you to keep an eye on financial data and be wary of giving out information over the phone.

Albany banks haven't reported an increase in activity since the Target credit card breach.  But they say scam artists continue to contact consumers by phone and email posing as representatives from various companies.

"At least maybe once every six months get your credit checked either online or with your local bank, and look at it.  Don't just get it checked.  And just check it out, see what your score is and see if there are things on there that are not things you have done," said Scott Thomlinson, Flint Community Bank President & CEO.

Thomlinson said you should monitor accounts every day and use credit cards over debit cards because they have more protection against liability.

He also says you should keep cash on hand, especially when traveling.
