GRU to add 'Augusta' to campus gateway signs

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

Georgia Regents University will add the word "Augusta" to the permanent gateway signs on its campuses after complaints from the community that the city name was left out.

"We listened to the concerns of community leaders and responded," President Ricardo Azziz said in a press release. "The community is an important partner as we focus on student recruitment, progression and success, high quality patient- and family-centered care, faculty and staff satisfaction, and our economic impact on the communities we serve."

School officials originally said "Augusta" would be included on the new signs at the school after Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences combined. But signs installed last month only said "Georgia Regents University" above "University System of Georgia."

The university plans to add "Augusta" to the current gateway signage by the end of February, officials said.
