ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Lots of coon dogs are sniffing their way into south Georgia for a big hunt this weekend. After the United Kennel Club pulled out of the event, A.K.C. continued the tradition.

This event benefits the prevention of child abuse. Anyone can walk on with their dog and they are offering 50% off the licensing fee for dogs. Plus kids will have the opportunity to show their dogs on Sunday.

Jimmy Phillips spear-headed the effort and the hunt is expecting about 250 people this year. And are hoping to exceed the $9,200 they raised last year.

"If they want to enter in to the night hunt or event show with hounds, there are seven breeds of hounds that are recognized here. They can walk on sign up, the deadline each day Friday and Saturday is 5:00. For the show we start taking entries at 9:00 on Saturday morning the show starts shortly after 11:00," said AKC Field Rep. Jimmy Phillips.

Families are welcome, the show is free to the public. There will be venders selling food and all kinds of hunting supplies and information will be available for anyone new to the sport.
