Florida leads country in sex trafficking

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL (WFLX) - Florida is the third largest state for reported sex trafficking in the country.

Wednesday leaders with the Florida Department of Children and Families, along with the Department of Health and Juvenile Justice, met at Dreher Park.

They said they are making a stronger fight against sex trafficking in South Florida.

They said predators usually look at places like parks or shopping malls for vulnerable children.

A sex trafficking survivor spoke and said awareness and alert adults can help prevent human trafficking from happening to other children.

"We're wanting them to get involved and not just turn their eye and say, 'Oh, that's not my child' or 'That would never happen to my child', because we don't ever never know," said sex trafficking survivor Telisia Espinosa

January is Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
