After violent week, Ft. Pierce adds extra patrols

By Elizabeth Harrington

FORT PIERCE, FL (WFLX) - There are extra eyes watching the streets of Fort Pierce. It has been a violent week in the city. That's why police have added more officers.

In addition to Fort Pierce's regular patrols, members of a task force from St. Lucie County are also out on the street. "The task force is focused on the areas that have had trouble," says Sgt. Jason Braun.

Last Thursday, two people were killed during a home invasion. On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy was shot and killed. No arrests have been made. Police are asking the public for help.

Sgt. Braun says anonymous tips led to several arrests over the weekend. He says it's important that people know police are out there.

"The more the community sees the officers out and see them in the streets they're more apt to approach them," says Sgt. Braun.

If you have information you can call Fort Pierce Police Department. If you'd like to remain anonymous you can contact the Treasure Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-800-273-TIPS (8477).
