Organizers prep for Albany Marathon

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Marathon is a little over a month away, and organizers are looking for volunteers.

The race attracts people from all over the country and is one of the biggest annual events for the city.

It's ranked as one of the top qualifiers for the Boston Marathon.

The run kicks off at 7 a.m. On Saturday March 1st and coincides with the downtown Mardi Gras street party which starts at noon.

Organizers hope you'll volunteer or help line the route and encourage the runners.

"Anyone can volunteer, we need road marshals,  who will stand at the corners directing the runners. We need cheerleaders. Anyone and everyone is welcomed. This is a great opportunity for families to get involved. Churches, civic groups, just to do something great throughout the city,"says director Rashelle Beasley.
